Audio description and accessible subtitles

01 Understand options

Audio description explains visual information between dialogue. Deaf and hard-of-hearing captions may identify speakers and relevant sounds as well as words. Standard translated subtitles and accessible captions serve different needs.

02 Find the right track

Look for AD, audio description, SDH or accessibility labels, then open player audio and subtitle options. Check the exact language. A service supporting a feature does not provide it for every title or device.

03 Take action

Test a passage with the viewer: caption size, contrast and placement, audio clarity and player controls. For French programmes, the public audio-description portal links to services. Ask the broadcaster about another accessible edition if needed.

Frequently asked questions

Does an option work everywhere?
